Shipping a blade across the border

Shipping a blade across the border

We are looking to ship our blade to Canada from the US. Anybody have a recommendation on a company or type of company to look for in our area? We have talked to UPS and have not had a lot of success getting answers. They were not very forthcoming with estimates, duty fees, packaging requirements, etc. Have also started contacting freight forwarders in the area. Any others ideas - DHL, Fedex, ???

thanks in advance

where are you out of? Probably best to call your sharpener up in
canada and find out what you require and who to ship it with. For sure you will need a comercial invoice showing the value and mark all documents "for repair and return" or you will have import export issues. Be prepared to pay for a temporary import bond about 50 bucks.

Why not call Ice King in Smiths Falls, Ontario 613-283-2323
Bill Wood (owner) should be able to accomodate you.

Or, you might want to send them to Icemaster in Winnipeg. Phone Guy @ 1 866 504 8120. Best blade sharpening on the planet!!!!

I dont want to get into the whole iceking vs icemaster debate.

We are in Connecticut. Where do we get the temporary import bond? Is that something the shipping company should be able to handle?

I did find out about the "return and repair" concept.

JH

Ice King can take care of all the paperwork. All you'd have to do is have the blades ready to ship. When completed, you would pay Ice King for the sharpening and all the shipping and duty costs.

Sorry JH, We carry them across the border ourselves. Of course now that Ice King moved to the other side of Lake Ontario we might be thinking of shipping ours too. I will ask around at the GNCC meeting this weekend and see if I get any advice for you.

I will be at the meeting as well. Make sure you say hi.

nice fish there pal

try WWW.JTMachineknife.com they ship product world wide

Ice King has gone out of business. Hasn't anyone confirmed this yet or are you all waiting for the next curling season to start before you realize Ice King won't be able to sharpen your blades, or honor any warranties, or deliver anymore machines.

At the very least, don't send you blades to Smith Falls for sharpening without calling first. You may not get the blade(s) back, or you may have to pay for shipping both ways and all you'll get back is your dull blade(s).

Just trying to save some clubs some grief, not trying to spread nasty rumors. I know what I'm talking about. I don't have to research anything. I know for a definate fact that Ice King is no more.

If you don't believe me, instead of criticizing and scolding me (and suggesting that Bill take me to court) for spreading the truth, why doesn't someone call Bill Wood at 613-283-2323 and ask him point blank. He can only lie for so long.

Ice King has not gone out of business, your rumour is complete bogus.... Why would you post such garbage on this forum?

I'm sure you've heard by now that this is not a rumour. It is a documented fact.

I guess some people can't handle the truth.
Or is it more of a problem accepting that you've been lied to?

Whatever the reason for all the hostility this documented fact has raised, it doesn't come close to the frustration or the stress this documented fact has caused for pages and pages of creditors who are about to get screwed over.

Guess we'll all just have to accept it and move on, eh? Bill's left us with no other option. Moving on would be a lot easier if Bill would do the same and stop lying to everyone here, but I don't expect that will happen. The liar will have admit he's been lying (to alot of people and for a very long time).

Well, I guess 12 years of secondary education taught me something.........
