More Changes Coming To InTheHack?

In case you didn't know, every post at InTheHack is now showing up on the front page of the site, making it much, much easier to find things that you are interested in.

Because of this, I'm beggining to think that the concept of HackChat is outdated. Instead, I think what I would like to have is a bunch of categories that people can subscribe to, either via email or RSS feeds, with people posting new stories and tagging them with the appropriate categories. All the stories still get posted to the front page, but the idea of having to go through all the forums is gone. Its easier to find things, easier to navigate and much more easy to stay up to date with what you are interested in.

What do you think?

Mike

This forum remains the place where one can actually discuss curling, gather information, have questions answered.

Whereas CZ has degenerated into a sort of Kiddies slanging match, with a lot of competition information and stats in between.

This may sound like I am afraid of change, and in this case it may be true. I am, however, worried about this suggested change. I like the change that the newest posts are on the front page, but personally I am only interested in 2 or three of the chat categories. I don't need extra emails coming in to my inbox whenever anyone posts to those categories. I also am afraid it would take a while to go through the ones on the front page if I don't get to the site for a few days during the season. I vote we keep the chat sites.
Once again THANKS MIKE for bringing us this forum

Let me clear a few things up:
1. You wouldn't get an email of everything. You'd be able to get an email of whatever subject you're interested in... Ie. send me an email when someone is looking for a team in Ontario, or when information is posted about the Brier. You wouldn't get it for everything.

2. You'd still be able to get information via category pages. I just need to figure out how to make it easy for you to find those category pages, as you can right now with the way HackChat is layed out.

Great feedback.

Don't you think its time for new curling gloves or curling mitts?

The site needs a "help" button.
It took me a while to figure out that the only discussions that are active are those that have that little red asterix!
If I want to comment on a discussion that doesn't have a red asterix,
do I need to start a new discussion (blog?)?
I am not a fan of lots of email, and have not had time to assess the site, but if it ain't broke don't fix it!!!

Havanicedayea!

After not checking the site for a few months I have to admit I found it hard to find where the posts were (besides the ones on the first page). I was looking at the menu on the left instictively and could not find what I was looking for. Then I finally found what I was looking for under HackChat at the top of the page.

Maybe it is just me, but personally I am used to finding a Forum link and then clicking on the sub-forum (category) that I am interested in. I think this would be most useful if it was part of the menu on the left with the pop-up menu when you mouse over like the Participate link.

I am not sure I want an email everytime someone posts in a particular category. I just like the notification when someone responds to a thread that I responded to.

FWIW - I am a fan of required logins for posting. I hate not knowing who posted something, even if it is only a made-up username like sport_nut. :)

I'm surprised you couldn't see it: "Recent Items on InTheHack"...

Any suggestions on how I could rename it so others could see it better?

InTheHack is moving away from forums and towards blogs, which I see as the future for discussions on the Internet.

Good suggestion on making the pop-up menu for forums, I'll add that now.

You have the *option* of receiving notifications for a particular category *OR* when someone responds to a thread that you responded to. I like the choice. :)

Thanks for the feedback, it helps make the site better.

Mike
